Laurie French

Trustee Laurie French

Welcome back to school Students and Staff!

The 2019-20 school year promises to be a good one in Greater Napanee and across Canada!

I hope everyone had a safe and fun summer.  As a long-time resident of the Napanee area, and your Trustee for many years, I have continued to advocate for our schools, demonstrating accountability in our community. I was pleased to continue my leadership at the national level, allowing me to voice the needs of communities in the interest of our students. We can be proud of the achievements of our graduates last year, and look forward to continued success for our children.

President of the Canadian School Board Association

About Laurie French

I am excited for this next term as I continue to serve Greater Napanee students and constituents. My children and I are all proud graduates of NDSS, and my partner Bob who also grew up in Napanee is a retired Caretaker and Operations Supervisor of schools. We are proud of our home town and have many friends and family with children in our schools.

I continue to seek feedback from Napanee residents to understand what is important to you from your Trustee. Below describes some of what I've heard and what I offer as your representative:

Acting as an accountable and accessible representative has been critical, ensuring policies and regulations are followed. While not always understood, School board processes are unique from Municipal councils with additional responsibilities to the Education Act. I am committed to open communication, and regular updates to the community.

Success For All

Equity does not mean equal, but it provides for all students to move forward with success, with the tools and supports they need, in an environment of positive diversity. Special education funding changes have impacted our board and we must continue to advocate for the improvements we've achieved.

Student Achievement &  Well-Being

Ensuring our students have the best education programming possible to provide opportunities for success in a full range of choices: business, agriculture, the trades, technology, health, education, the Arts, and more. We have some of the strongest programs in the Board in our Napanee schools! We must continue to improve resources for mental health and physical activity.

Fiscal Responsibility

A balanced budget is not only required by law for school boards, but is key to sound management of significant tax dollars. We have once again achieved a balanced budget for 2018/19, allocating $279.4 million for operations and $17 million in capital expenses.
